The rubric

Every product gets a 0–10 score built from five weighted factors: real-world performance against its claims (30%) — does the jump starter actually crank a cold V8, does the brush actually clear a roof; cold-weather reliability signals across large owner-review datasets and long-term ownership reports (25%); build quality and durability (20%) — clamps, poles, blades, and fabric that survive a real winter; safety features and certifications (15%); and value against direct competitors (10%). Scores are relative within a category: a 9.0 jump starter and a 9.0 snow brush are both excellent at their own jobs, not equivalents.

Independence

Brands do not pay for placement, cannot buy a score, and do not see reviews before publication. Rankings change when the products or prices change — not when a vendor emails us.

How we make money

When you buy through our Amazon links, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That's the entire business model, and it only works if our recommendations keep being right. Full details in our affiliate disclosure.

Prices

Where we display an Amazon price, it comes from Amazon's product data API, is refreshed throughout the day, and is timestamped. Where we can't show a live price, we show a typical street price clearly labeled as such — the "Buy on Amazon" button always leads to the current number.
