Best Ice Scrapers & Snow Brushes

A good snow brush clears a roof-to-bumper foot of snow in two minutes and an inch of ice without you ever leaning across a wet hood. A bad one bends, sheds foam, and scratches the paint. The differences that matter: length (reaching the middle of an SUV roof), head design (foam or rubber squeegee vs. bristles), scraper blade quality, and whether the pole survives being levered over a windshield at -15°F. Several states — and common sense — require clearing the roof, not just the glass.

Snow Joe SJBLZD Telescoping Snow Broom

An 18-inch foam head on a telescoping pole clears a full SUV roof from one side without scratching paint — the best all-round snow tool for the money.

8.9
/ 10

Pros

  • +Wide 18" foam head clears roof, hood, and glass fast without scratching paint
  • +Telescopes from ~30" to ~49" — reaches the middle of an SUV or crossover roof
  • +Lightweight; easy to store in a trunk or behind a seat

Cons

  • Foam head is better at pushing snow than at flicking off light powder or clearing bristle-sized crevices
  • The scraper blade is basic — fine for frost, slow on a thick ice glaze

AstroAI 47" Extendable 3-in-1 Snow Brush

#2

AstroAI 47" Extendable 3-in-1 Snow Brush

Bristle brush, squeegee, and a proper scraper with ice chippers on a pole that extends to 47 inches — the most complete brush in its price class.

8.7
/ 10

Pros

  • +3-in-1 head: bristle brush for powder, rubber squeegee for slush, plus a pivoting design for angles
  • +Detachable ice scraper with a thick blade and ice-chipper teeth — good on real ice, not just frost
  • +Extends from ~30" to 47" with a locking pole; foam grips stay warm in the hand

Cons

  • Bristles can drag grit across paint — sweep, don't press
  • Narrower head than a foam broom, so a roof takes more strokes
