Best Ice Scrapers & Snow Brushes

A good snow brush clears a roof-to-bumper foot of snow in two minutes and an inch of ice without you ever leaning across a wet hood. A bad one bends, sheds foam, and scratches the paint. The differences that matter: length (reaching the middle of an SUV roof), head design (foam or rubber squeegee vs. bristles), scraper blade quality, and whether the pole survives being levered over a windshield at -15°F. Before you buy

▸Length by vehicle: a 26–36" brush suits sedans, a 47–52" telescoping model reaches the middle of a crossover roof, and a 58–60" broom is what it takes to clear a full-size SUV, pickup cab, or minivan roof from one side.
▸Foam or rubber 'squeegee' heads push heavy snow without flinging it back in your face and won't scratch clear coat. Bristles are better at flicking off light, dry powder and getting into panel gaps. Several of our picks have both.
▸The scraper blade matters more than the brush. Look for a thick polycarbonate blade with ice-chipper teeth on the back; thin plastic blades round off in one season.
▸Extendable poles should lock positively — twist locks loosen in the cold; push-button or cam locks hold. A pivoting head lets you angle the squeegee across the roof.
▸Keep a second, short scraper (or a scraper mitt) in the cabin. When the long brush is buried in a snowed-in trunk you'll still want to clear the driver's window before you dig.
▸Never chip at a windshield with a cracked chip — cold plus pressure propagates the crack. Let the defroster soften the ice first, or use de-icer spray, then scrape.
